Intent
Our intent, is that our teaching of History, will help our pupils from EYFS to Year 6, to acquire coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We aim for our teaching to inspire pupil’s curiosity about the past and to want to know more about the past. The teaching should enable pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weight evidence, sift arguments as well as develop perspective and judgement. It will teach our pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identify and the challenges of their time. Finally, at St Mary Magdalen’s we want our children to understand that History is about real people who lived and real events, which happened in the past. Through studying our local heritage and how it relates to the national story, our children will be proud of where they live.
