Our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children held fabulous E-Safety assemblies in school. The message to stay safe whilst online certainly hit home. Thank you to all the parents who attended and to Pauline Stewart from DCC who held separate talks with parents on E-safety issues. There will be further information sent out to parents on the issue of E-Safety. Feel free to pick up an E-safety leaflet from the school reception area. You can also update your E-safety knowledge by visiting the E-safety page on our school website.
A fantastic Art Day!
Our school had a visit from a real life artist today who worked with the children exploring different forms of art. Jane McCraken is a professional artist who has produced many exciting and commercial art pieces. Having given an assembly to the children, Jane then went on to work with classes to produce their own works of art! All the children had a fabulous day and certainly learnt lots of new artistic skills.
Y6 Athletics competition
Our Year 6 athletes represented the school in the annual Easington Athletics Competition held at Easington Colliery Primary School. It was a fantastic afternoon where our children gave some magnificent performances including: the 60m and 80m sprints as well as field events including: the javelin, the shot put and the long jump. Well done in particular to Laura Slwinska who came 3rd in the Girls 60m sprint event and also Anna Ellis who won the shot put and who now goes through to the regional finals! Congratulations to you all!
Keep fit with ‘Freddy Fit’
The children were certainly kept on their toes when Freddy Fit visited our school. All classes had the opportunity to join in with some exciting sporting activities and to show off their fitness skills. The day was a great warm up for our ‘Health and Fitness’ week which begins in school on the 27th June!
Happy 90th Birthday to our Queen
The children celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday is style. On Friday 10th June the school had a fabulous day learning about our British culture and the life of our monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. To end the day our school enjoyed a very royal ‘Tea Party’ in the school yard. Check out our ‘ Whole School Events’ section for more information.
Year 6 Mountain Bike Competition
Four of our Year 6 children represented the school in the annual Mountain Bike Competition at Peterlee this week. The children competed against other local schools to complete a gruelling course, finishing in second place in their group relay. Congratulations to all the team and in particular, to Sam Gowans who came second in his individual race. We are very proud of you! For more pictures of the event, please see the Sporting Events section of the website.
Mosque Visit
Years 5 and 6 enjoyed an interesting visit to the Mosque in Newcastle this week as part of their topic on Islam. They observed daily prayer and had a tour of the Mosque as well as trying on traditional Muslim head wear.
Enjoy the Half Term.
Wishing all of our parents and children a very enjoyable and refreshing half term holiday. School will re-open on Tuesday 7th June.
A Fond Farewell to Mr. Maitland!
A fond farewell to Mr Maitland who is moving on. Everyone at St Mary Magdalen’s school would like to wish him every success in his future endeavours. He will be a big miss to the school community and we thank him for his time at our school.
Green Fingers!
Thank you to those parents who donated flowers and plants for our school borders. Some of our keen gardeners in Year 6 have been busy digging and planting and making the front of our school look colourful. A special thank you to Mr Beagan, our school caretaker, for lending a hand too!
