Year 5 Athletics Competition.
Well done to our Year 5 Athletics team who displayed some real skill in their track and field events at the Easington School Sports Partnership Competition. Two members of the team have now qualified for the County Finals at Maiden Castle. Good luck to you both!
Year 1/2 Athletics Festival.
Well done to our fabulous Year 2 athletes, who had a great morning competing against other schools in the Easington Schools Sports partnership Athletics Festival. The children were fabulous and represented our school really well.
Year 3/4 Tennis Competition.
Congratulations to our Year 4 tennis team, who competed in the Easington Schools Sports Partnership tennis finals. They represented the school really well and demonstrated some fantastic tennis skills.
Year 5/6 Basketball Competition.
Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 Basketball team who displayed real skill and team work in the Easington Schoool Sports Partnership Basketball Competition. The team have now qualified for the final, which will be played later this year.

Skipping Festival
Congratulations to our skippers who took part in the Seaham Skipping Festival. They demonstrated some marvelous skipping skills both as a team and individually. Well done to you all, we are so proud of you!
Swimming
A huge well done to the fabulous swimming team, who competed in the County Swimming Finals. There were some excellent individual and team performances. You have made us so proud, well done everyone!
Year 1/2 Football Festival.
Well done to our Year 2 football team who came first after a thrilling final in the Easington School Sports Partnership Year 1/2 Football Festival.
Boccia
A big well done to our Boccia team, who competed in the Easington Schools Sports Partnership Boccia Festival. You have represented our school really well and made us so proud!
Autumn term 2018
Well done to our Year 5 B team, who won the final of the Ian Gustard Cup. In a very tense and close match, the boys managed a 2-1 win, demonstrating some excellent football skills. It was a huge team effort. Well done to all!
A huge well done to our Key Stage 2 Cross Country Team, who competed in the Easington Schools Sports Partnership Cross Country Competition. In quite unseasonally warm weather, all participants completed the gruelling course with great finishing times. Well done in particular to Ellen Marie, who after finishing second in her race, now goes on to compete in the County Finals.
Congratulations to our fabulous netball team who took part in the Easington Schools Sports Partnership Netball Competition. The girls played really well, improving with each game. Well done girls!

School Games County Finals
Well done to our amazing netball team who competed in the School Games County Finals in Barnard Castle. The girls played some excellent netball in difficult weather conditions and managed to achieve 5th place. Well done girls, we are all so proud of you!
Y3/4 Athletics
A huge congratulations to some of the Year 4 children who competed against other schools at the Easington Schools Sports Athletics Festival. The children demonstrated some very impressive individual and team skills. The children took part in various throwing, jumping and running events. Well done in particular to the boys team who came second overall!
Year 5/6 athletics Festival
A big well done to the Year 5 children who competed in the Easington Schools Athletics Festival at Easington Colliery Primary School. There were some very impressive results in the shot put, javelin, long jump and triple jumps as well as the sprint and long distance events. Well done in particular to Jake, who qualified for the Athletics County Finals in his 60m sprint event.
New Age Kurling
Congratulations to the Year 5 teams who played in a Kurling Festival at Wellfield School. Both teams improved their technique throughout the morning and even managed to reach the semi finals. Well done!
Skipping success
A huge well done to our team of fabulous skippers who were overall winners at the skipping festival at St Bede’s. As well as the whole team success, their were individual winners too including:-

Year 3/4 Tennis Competition.
A group of our Year 4 children enjoyed their morning at Seaham Leisure Centre taking part in the annual Year 3/4 Tennis Competition. The children demonstrated some impressive tennis skills. Well done to you all!
Year 5 Tournament Bede’s.
Well done to the Year 5 Netball and Football team who competed at St Bede’s against other local schools. Both teams demonstrated excellent team performances and managed to win their respective tournaments. Congratulations!
Swimming Gala.
A huge well done to the KS2 Swimming team who came first in the Easington Schools Sports Swimming Gala. The children were fantastic and impressed with their individual and team performances. They now go on to represent Easington in the County Finals.

Netball Final.
Well done to the Year 5 and 6 girls who won the Easington Schools Netball Final. They worked really hard as a team to secure a win, playing some excellent netball. They now go on to represent Easington in the county finals later in the year.
Tag Rugby Festival
Well done to our Year 5 and 6 children who took part, for the first time, in the Tag Rugby Festival at Horden. The children enjoyed their experience and improved their rugby skills!

Bishops Cup Winners 2017 – St Mary Magdalen’s RC Primary!
It was a big night on Tuesday 20th June for the boy’s football A team as they took part in the final of the prestigious Catholic schools tournament, the Bishops Cup, hosted at St. Aloysius Primary School. It was the 60th year of the competition and reaching the final was a huge achievement for the A team, being the only St Mary Magdalen team to do so in many years. 56 teams entered the tournament, but only 4 made it to the final: ourselves, St Mary’s (Whickham), St Matthew’s (Jarrow) and St Aloysius (Hebburn).
It was a fantastic final and our very own talented youngsters came out victorious, winning the coveted Bishop’s Cup trophy! It was lovely to see the trophy being presented to the team by our previous head teacher, Mr Rhodes, who was clearly delighted with the outcome. Well done to the boys and a big thank you to all parents, relatives and friends who came to support the team. We are all feeling very proud of your achievements!

Year 6 Athletics team.
Well done to our Year 6 children for a tremendous effort in the Easington Schools Athletics competition. There were some fantastic team and individual performances in the long jump, triple jump, javelin and shot put as well as the sprinting and long distance races.
Year 3 Tennis team
Congratulations to our Tennis team, who represented the school at the Mini tennis competition. The children were able to practise their tennis skills and to play some exciting matches against other schools. As always, we are really proud of you all.
KS1 perform their ‘Bounce’ moves!
Our Key Stage 1 children performed their ‘Bounce’ moves to parents in a thrilling show this week. The children have been attending a series of after school clubs focussing on keeping healthy through ‘Bounce’ and dance. Well done to all!
Football ‘A’ Team win the Barry Sutherland Cup
Our ‘A’ team football squad did fantastically well in winning the Barry Sutherland Cup final. The final score was 2-0 to St Mary Magdalen’s after extra time. A big well done to our boys and team coach who have done us proud. The team are hoping to continue their success by winning the Bishop’s Cup and league.
Year 5 Netball and Football Festival.
Some of our Year 5 children represented the school in the annual netball and football tournament at St Bede’s R.C Comprehensive. All the children enjoyed the morning, competing against children from other Catholic primary schools and they showcased their fantastic football and netball skills. Congratulations in particular to the girls, who won the netball competition.
County Swimming Finals.
Congratulations to the swimming team who represented their school and the Easington Schools sports Partnership at the County Swimming finals at Freemans Quay. The children took part in both individual and team races, showing some fantastic swimming talent! Well done to everyone who took part!
Cross Country County Finals
A huge congratulations to our Year 4 cross country team who competed against other primary schools in the county at East Durham College. There were some fantastic individual and team performances. Well done to Ellen Marie Atkinson who came 4th in the Year 3/4 event and to Jake Worth who finished an impressive 2nd in his event. Congratulations also to the Year 4 boys team, who with their combined scores, finished 3rd overall!

Congratulations to our A team footballers who took part in the Barry Sutherland cup last night. After some very close matches, they managed to qualify for the final, which is to be held next month.

Our Year 2 hula hoop stars enjoyed a wonderful afternoon showcasing their skills at East Durham College. well done to everyone who took part.
Well Done to our School Swimmers
Congratulations to our school swimming squad who won their swimming heats at the Easington District qualifier rounds. They now move into the schools county finals. Everyone wishes them every success during these final competition stages.
Schools Sports Partnership Gymnastics Key Steps Competition.
Congratulations to our Key Stage 2 gymnasts who competed against other schools in the Easington District Key Steps Competition. The children executed their floor and vault routines very well. There must be some budding Max Whitlocks and Beth Tweddles amongst our team! Well done, we are all very proud of you!
Cross Country competition.
Some of our KS2 children completed a very difficult cross country course at East Durham College as part of the Schools Sports Partnership Cross Country event. All 4 teams gave some very impressive performances although a special mention goes to Ellen- Marie Atkinson who won the Year 3/4 girls event and also to Jake Worth who came second in the Year 3/4 boys event. Both children now go through to the regional finals next year.

Netball Success 2016
Athletics competitions 2016
Our Year 4 and Year 6 children enjoyed two fantastic afternoons at Easington Colliery Primary schools taking part in the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Athletics competitions.
Both teams demonstrated some real skill, speed and endurance during the events, competing at a really high standard against other local schools.

Year 6 Mountain Bike Competition
Well done to our four Year 6 children who completed the Mountain Bike course, finishing their relay in second place.
Congratulations in particular to Same Gowans who was just pipped into second place in a nail-biting final.
Year 5 sporting event at St Bede’s R.C Comprehensive.
Our Year 5 netball and football teams enjoyed a fantastic competition against other primary schools at St Bede’s R.C Comprehensive. Both teams were a credit to our school, displaying not not only great skills but also a great sporting attitude. Well done to both teams, we are really proud of you!
Regional Cross Country Finals
Well done to our Year 5 and 6 girl’s team for completing a particularly difficult and muddy cross country course in the regional finals. They competed against many other schools in the county and showed true grit, determination and team spirit to make us all very proud. Well done girls!
Year 3/4 Football Festival
Our Year 4 footballers took part in the Easington Schools Sports Partnership Football Festival. They played some fantastic football in some very exciting matches and managed to come third place in their group overall. As usual, their attitude and behaviour were both impeccable. Well done boys, you have made us very proud!
Hoopstarz
Some of our Year 2 children took part in the Hoopstarz Festival at East Durham College. Here, they learnt a variety of hula hoop skills and had a fabulous time!
Fencing Club.
The after school Fencing club finished this week by showcasing all the hard work and talent that the Year 5 and 6 children had been working on. After many weeks of perfecting their footwork, the children took part in some ‘Electric Fencing’ competitions. Sounds painful!
Bikeability
Congratulations to some of our Year 5 children who braved the January weather to complete a 4 week Bikeability course. The children extended their knowledge of how to keep safe whilst riding their bikes on the local roads and completed the level 1 or level 2 course.
Football Teams (A and B)
Both our A and B football teams were showing off their new football strips and getting ready for their big matches in the ‘Bishops Cup’. A BIG thank you to our ‘Friends of St. Mary Magdalen’s’ who generously bought these fantastic new strips! I’m sure both teams will achieve great things and will add further successes to the many trophies, shields and medals we already have displayed in school.
KS2 Swimming Team
A big congratulations to the KS2 swimming team who competed in the Easington Schools Swimming Gala. It was a tough competition with the team finally finishing in 3rd place.
Gymnastics Team
Congratulations to the Year 5 and 6 Gymnastics team who cartwheeled and vaulted their way into 5th place at the Easington Schools Key Steps competition.
Cross Country Team.
The Year 5 and 6 team entered their first every Cross Country event at East Durham and Houghall College. Both the boys and girls teams gave very impressive performances on a particularly difficult course.
The girls went one step further and are now the Easington Schools champions. They now go on to the regional finals which will be held next year.
High Five Netball
In another competition this week, the Year 5 and 6 netball team competed against other local schools in the Easington Schools High Five Tournament. Having won all games in the group stages, they then went on to play Murton Ribbon Academy in an exciting semi final. Although they were narrowly beaten 3-2, they showed great team spirit, determination and a fantastic sporting attitude throughout!
