The Christmas Fayre was, overall, a great success. There were one or two things that we can work on for next year but isn’t that always the case. The main thing is that the whole of our community – and I do mean the whole – came together to share an experience. If you think first of all about the work that went into the preparation not just on the day but in the months prior to Friday – all the making and baking, all the planning and buying – that alone is impressive. If you could also see the work that went into preparing on the day you would have seen team work at its best. Children, parents, grandparents and school staff came together to set up in readiness for the afternoon. I don’t think anyone was aware of just how popular an event it was to prove to be. Yes we ended up with a few queues here and there, especially for Santa – but seeing the delight on the children’s faces when they eventually got to meet the great man was worth every second!
The work of the stall holders, again a great mix of people, was a pleasure to see, everyone working hard but having fun serving and in some cases decorating the customers!
But most of all, the most amazing aspect, was the support from everyone who came along, and on the whole seemed to enjoy the afternoon, even those who stood in the queue for Santa for over an hour!!!That is one of the things we will have to work on for next year. Perhaps we could get Santa to visit individual children in their homes – save them from queuing! No…wait a minute! Getting back to the amount who came along and in some cases completely wiped out some stalls in half an hour. I think our ’42 inch tellies’ equivalent were the cup cakes! Luckily nobody started fighting over the Christmas cakes or started throwing cream cakes at each other!
Finally thank you to all those who stayed behind well after closing time to clear the bulk of the debris! That is always the least favourite part especially after all the effort that had gone into the day! Cheers everyone! A great success!!
We will let you know a grand total as soon as possible!
