Our Reception children have been helping Mr Duncan and the police in trying to solve the mystery of who broke into their classroom last week! Lots of mess was created and some items were stolen (Golden Goose & Golden Harp to name but a few). The culprit left their finger prints so they should be identified soon. I’m sure our Reception children will get to the bottom of this mystery!
Wishing everyone a happy and holy Easter
Thank you to everyone who joined us at St Mary Magdalen’s church to celebrate our children’s KS2 Easter service. It was such a lovely way to end the Spring term and to be reminded of the true meaning of Easter. I wish all of our school community a very happy and holy Easter and I look forward to seeing you all at the start of the Summer Term.

‘Mini Vinnies’ bring smiles at Easter
Our school ‘Mini Vinnies’ visited Beachcomber (local residential care home) at the end of the term to hand deliver Easter cards to the residents. All of the cards were greatly received and it was lovely to see so many happy faces and smiles!
What an Eggcellent Display!
Well done to all those who entered our Easter paste egg competition. All the entries were fantastic and very original – what creative young people and parents we have at St. Mary Magdalen’s! Although all the entries are winners in our eyes – a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place was awarded for each class. All entries will receive a well done prize in assembly on Thursday. If you would like to see some of the eggs on show please take a look at the ‘School Events’ section of our website under Classes. Alternatively you are always welcome to pop into school, at the end of the school day, before the eggs go home on Thursday.
Easter Egg Donations
Thank you to everyone who donated a chocolate Easter egg for our end of term class raffle. We have had a great response and our children certainly now have a great chance of winning an egg!
Year 5 Champions!
Congratulations to our 5 – a side netball and football teams who took part in the Year 5 Sports Event at St Bede’s R.C Comprehensive. The children thoroughly enjoyed the chance to show their netball and football skills and compete against other primary schools. Well done in particular to the football team who won their competition. You have all made us very proud!
Family History Day
Our Year 5 class visited Seaham Town Hall to discover more about our heritage. Councillor Bruce Burn led the children through a history of Seaham’s mining and shipbuilding history through various photographs and artefacts. Then East Durham Heritage led a very interesting insight into the George Elmy Lifeboat disaster.
Year 2 Class Liturgy
Our Year 2 children carried out a very prayerful class liturgy this morning on the topic of ‘Special Meals’. Afterwards parents were welcomed to join the children in sharing a special meal. Thank you to all those parents who attended.

Cross Country finalists!
Congratulations once more to our Year 5 and 6 Cross country finalists who competed in the regional finals at Parkside Academy Willington on a gruelling and extremely muddy course! Please read more on ‘Sporting events’.
‘Mini Vinnies’ Commissioning Assembly
Congratulations to our new ‘Mini Vinnies’ group who were commissioned in a very special and prayerful assembly this morning. The assembly was lead by the children with the support of Mr. Wilcox, who is a member of the SVP society, and our local SVP community member, Mr Denis Rooney.
