The children celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday is style. On Friday 10th June the school had a fabulous day learning about our British culture and the life of our monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. To end the day our school enjoyed a very royal ‘Tea Party’ in the school yard. Check out our ‘ Whole School Events’ section for more information.
Year 6 Mountain Bike Competition
Four of our Year 6 children represented the school in the annual Mountain Bike Competition at Peterlee this week. The children competed against other local schools to complete a gruelling course, finishing in second place in their group relay. Congratulations to all the team and in particular, to Sam Gowans who came second in his individual race. We are very proud of you! For more pictures of the event, please see the Sporting Events section of the website.
Mosque Visit
Years 5 and 6 enjoyed an interesting visit to the Mosque in Newcastle this week as part of their topic on Islam. They observed daily prayer and had a tour of the Mosque as well as trying on traditional Muslim head wear.
Enjoy the Half Term.
Wishing all of our parents and children a very enjoyable and refreshing half term holiday. School will re-open on Tuesday 7th June.
A Fond Farewell to Mr. Maitland!
A fond farewell to Mr Maitland who is moving on. Everyone at St Mary Magdalen’s school would like to wish him every success in his future endeavours. He will be a big miss to the school community and we thank him for his time at our school.
Green Fingers!
Thank you to those parents who donated flowers and plants for our school borders. Some of our keen gardeners in Year 6 have been busy digging and planting and making the front of our school look colourful. A special thank you to Mr Beagan, our school caretaker, for lending a hand too!
‘Bling’ up your Scooter
The school enjoyed a fantastic afternoon in the sunshine as children from all classes ‘blinged’ up their scooter. The event, part of our Design and Technology week was a competition which was judged by our School Council.
For more photographs of the competition, please see Whole School Events.
Year 6 SAT’s Week – Good luck!
REMEMBER, SATS ONLY TEST TWO SUBJECTS…
At the moment, you’re doing a lot of English and Maths, but never forget you’ve got lots of other skills too. SATs don’t test these skills. Skills like whether you’re a creative person, good at I.T. or brilliant with pets and animals. They don’t test your speaking skills or whether you’re fantastic at making or mending things. They don’t measure whether you’re arty or sporty, a musician or someone who is really kind and cares for other people. They don’t test whether you are a hard worker, a good team player or someone who always has a good sense of humour. Although subjects like Maths and English are important, never forget you are a very special and unique person who has been blessed with talents in plenty of other areas too. I know that when you move on from St Mary Magdalen’s RC Primary you will be a real asset to your new schools. We wish you the best of luck this week in your tests – We are all very proud of you!
Mr Duncan
Happy 90th Birthday Sir David Attenborough!
Year 3W celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s 90th birthday today. All the children turned into David Attenborough to mark the special occasion and also enjoyed a piece of rainforest chocolate cake! Thank you to Mrs Wilkinson for providing the 90 candles for the cake – they were spectacular, despite setting off the smoke alarms!!!
Year 3 Tennis
Good Luck to our Year 3 Tennis players who will be representing our school today in a local schools tennis competition. The children will be competing at Seaham Leisure Centre and I’m sure they will do the school proud whether they win or come runners up.
