Industrial Action of Unison and ATL members

2nd November 2016 By spidrwebadmin

As you will be aware, following a recent ballot, Teaching Assistants across Durham County Council, who are affected by the proposals to change terms and conditions, have voted to take industrial action in the form of a strike. I would like to inform you that strike action is planned to take place on Tuesday 8th November and Wednesday 9thNovember.

How will this affect my children?

As headteacher, I am responsible, in consultation with the Chair of Governors, for deciding what will happen in our school during the strike period.

This strike action will lead to a significant reduction in staffing levels and consequently there will be health and safety implications for all pupils within our school. My decision has been informed by the risk assessment that I have carried out to determine the impact of the strike on the health and safety of pupils and staff. The decision I have made is that the school will be closed to all pupils on the above dates.

I appreciate that closing the school will cause inconvenience for families. However, can I assure you once again that in forming my decision I have taken into account the safety and well-being of all pupils and school staff. I will inform you if further developments arise.

Mr L Duncan (Headteacher)

21st October 2016 By spidrwebadmin

Our Head Boy and Head Girl made the first dig to mark the start of works for our new school building. Diggers  moved onto the school site to begin the earth works in preparation for our two new classrooms and sports hall. We will photograph various stages of the build, as it progresses, and these can be viewed within our ‘Whole School Events’ section.

Fire! Fire!

18th October 2016 By spidrwebadmin

Don’t worry there really wasn’t a real fire in school! Our Key Stage 1 children had a fabulous afternoon with our local firemen who taught them lots of fire safety tips. The children were taken outside to see a real fire engine and all had the opportunity to use the fire engine water hose!  Thank you Durham Fire Service for making time in your busy schedule to spend time with our children. It will surely be a visit they won’t forget!

Ragnor the Viking invaded school today and turned our Year 4 children into scary Vikings! The children learned lots of information about Viking life and made some real Viking jewellery and crafts. The day certainly brought the topic of ‘The Vikings’ to life.

‘Food for Thought’ Day

14th October 2016 By spidrwebadmin

To recognise the importance of World Food Day the children celebrated a ‘Food for Thought’ day in school today and enjoyed thinking and learning all about where our food comes from, what food is healthy and where hunger exists around the world. Thank you to all the children and parents for the many donations of food cans we received into school during our ‘Food for Thought’ day. You certainly excelled, once again, with your generosity and support. All the cans of food will be donated to local food banks which will be a great help to those in our community who need a little help.

Year 5 WW2 Assembly

14th October 2016 By spidrwebadmin

Thank you to Year 5 who did a fabulous job presenting their class assembly on the topic of WW2. It was lovely to learn about many interesting facts about WW2 and to see what the children have been covering in their curriculum topic work this term. Thank you also to parents who were able to attend – I hope you enjoyed the assembly as much as we did.
