There was a mysterious break-in at school! Someone had broken into our reception class and made a terrible mess! The police were called and the crime scene was made secure. Who did this terrible act? Our Reception children were determined to find out and they made sure all suspects were questioned and finger printed. Even the headteacher, Mr Duncan, couldn’t escape being interrogated. Finally the culprit was identified and it was no other than …….the big bad GIANT!

Football ‘A’ Team win Barry Sutherland Cup
Our ‘A’ team football squad did fantastically well in winning the Barry Sutherland Cup final. The final score was 2-0 to St Mary Magdalen’s after extra time. A big well done to our boys and team coach who have done us proud. The team are hoping to continue their success by winning the Bishop’s Cup and league.
Our School Council Visits Durham Town Hall
Our School Council were invited by the Mayor of Durham to attend Durham Town Hall. The children had the opportunity to look around the historic building and to learn many interesting facts about Durham Council history and our local democracy. Mayor Bell answered many questions and certainly provided the children with a fascinating and memorable experience. The School Council would like to thank Mayor Bell and all at the Town Hall for their time.
Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant Visits School
The Mayor and Mayoress of Durham visited school this week along with another very important visitor. The Queens’s Lord–Lieutenant (British monarch’s personal representative in each county of the United Kingdom) visited school to talk to the children and to share her experiences and to outline the role that she does. Lord -Lieutenant, Mrs Sue Snowden, had a tour of the school and called into each classroom to speak with the children and to answer a range of questions. We must say, both children and staff thoroughly enjoyed meeting and speaking with Lord -Lieutenant Snowden who was extremely friendly and full of fascinating facts. We hope she enjoyed her visit into school and she is always welcome to visit again in the future.

Well done to our Year 6 children who represented our school at this years dance festival. They showcased their dancing skills to parents, prior to competing, and certainly did us proud during their final performance.
Reception Class Liturgy
Our Reception children carried out a fabulous class liturgy to celebrate ‘sharing love with one another’. They focussed on the Gospel message and sent out Mother’s Day flowers and messages …”I love my mammy because…”. Thank you to all parents who joined us in school to share such a special moment.

Red Nose Day 2017 – What fun we all had!
The school had a fun filled day to celebrate Red Nose Day 2017. Lots of fundraising events took place throughout the day. Our ‘Mini Vinnies’ held a ‘Tell us your joke’ competition, the school council washed the staff cars to raise money and a surprisingly large number of pupils and staff donated money to see poor Mr Duncan get dunked at the end of the day!! A fantastic £459.23 was raised for good causes – well done everyone!
A BIG well done to our fantastic swimmers!
A very BIG well done to our school swimming team who took part in the swimming finals at Peterlee. The children came 6th overall out of 90 teams! It is lovely to see our children ‘shine’ and showcasing their fantastic talents. St Mary Magdalen’s is very proud of you all!
